Model 1182
Amplifier-Discriminator

Model 1182 Amplifier/Discriminator

Features:
  • ECL and TTL outputs
  • 20 ns pulse pair resolution
  • Adjustable threshold
  • Adjustable output pulse width
  • 20 ns pulse pair resolution

This unit is a simple, low-cost, but high-performance threshold level discriminator. When the input signal passes in a negative going sense through the threshold voltage, which can be preset in the range -150 ?V to -500 ?V, it generates an output pulse. The pulse width is adjustable over the range 10 ns to 75 ns, and the pulse output can be set to either ECL and TTL making it suitable for use with all photon counters, as well as with multichannel scalers when performing signal averaging measurements. It can also be used with our model 3820 Universal Counter to make a simple, low-cost, photon counting system.

The module also includes a bias current monitor, allowing the direct measurement of PMT anode current, and its sensitivity is such that the PMT can be operated at the beginning of the "plateau" on the curve of observed count rate versus photomultiplier high voltage. This allows operation with PMT gains as low as 2 x 10E5

It has been designed to drive long cables and can therefore be used in locations remote from the counting electronics. The model 1182 has high immunity to RFI which means it can be used near plasma furnaces or in other applications where radio frequency interference is a problem.
